KUANTAN: A suspected drug trafficker abandoned his girlfriend in the car as he fled a police ambush along the East Coast Highway at Kampung Bintang, Temerloh, on Saturday.

The suspect was caught after a short chase and a minor struggle some 20 metres away from his Proton Wira.

Police later recovered a plastic bag on the road shoulder which was thrown by the suspect, which contained 100 packets of white substance, believed to be heroin, worth RM13,800.

The suspect’s 22-year-old girlfriend surrendered immediately to the police after witnessing the 5pm drama.

The suspect later led police to his rented house at Plaza Temerloh where police found 44 plastic packets containing white substance, believed to be heroin, weighing 108g.

Later in the day, the suspect led police to another suspected trafficker who was nabbed while riding a motorcycle near the Temerloh toll plaza.

Police seized a green plastic bag from the suspect containing 12 plastic packets of a white substance, believed to be heroin.

State anti-narcotics chief Superintendent Yap Thoon Kuan said initial investigation revealed the syndicate got their supply from a neighbouring country and had been actively involved in drug distribution in Maran, Temerloh, Mentakab and Jerantut since April this year.
